    Children have unique physiological and developmental characteristics, making them particularly vulnerable in emergencies, disasters, and global health threats. Too often, though, disaster preparedness and response efforts overlook children’s needs.


    The solution: A collaborative approach, led by children’s hospitals.
    The Pediatric Pandemic Network was established to address those gaps.

    Through PPN, children’s hospitals serve as regional hubs for improving care for all children in pandemics, disasters, and every day.

    PPN’s hospitals work with regional and national programs, academic institutions, community organizations, and individual experts to share pediatric-related information, educational resources, and best practices.

    Mission and Vision

    Since the COVID-19 pandemic, PPN has been at the forefront of sharing resources and expertise to address the systemic shortcomings in pediatric care, striving to build resilient healthcare systems that can effectively respond to both current and future crises.

    Participants & Partners

    The network’s participants and partners include 10 childrens’ hospitals across diverse regions of the U.S., four federally funded national partners, dozens of leading experts in pediatrics and disaster and pandemic preparedness from academic institutions, professional associations, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and more.

    Disaster Response Collaborative

    This collaborative provides guidance and resources to support participants to implement improvements and to use tabletop exercises and drills to monitor and track improvements in disaster response for pediatric populations.

    Pediatric Mentored Disaster Research Program

    The overall goal of the PDRCD program is to develop a diverse pool of highly trained scientists who will address the nation’s health services, behavioral and clinical research needs in disaster science research as applied to children.
